I've made j-shots with all types of alcohols over the past few years. Depending on the flavor of jello used, some things fit better than others (rum, flavored rums, vodka, flavored vodkas, tequila, etc). My typical recipe is to simply replace 1/2 the amount of water called for, with the alcohol of choice.

When we make jello shots for our annual "girls weekend out", we bought some ketchup cups from a restaurant supply store. They work great! They are about $50 for a box of 5000. We will have jello shot cups for a few more years. Note: You have to let the mixture cool slightly before pouring the shots so they don't seep through paper, but the convenience is worth it.

I've made Gummy Bear Jello Shots before and they were a hit! Choose whatever flavor of Jello you like, mix it with 1 cup boiling water and 1 cup of your liquor of choice (or you can adjust the amount of water to make stronger/weaker shots). Lightly spray a flavorless cooking spray in the shot cups. Pour the Jello mixture in the cups, and let the Jello set up for a little bit. Once it has started to gel slightly, gently drop a Gummy Bear in the shot. Chill in the fridge for a few hours. You can add a shot of whipped cream on top of the shots too right before you serve them. These shots were really popular at my last party!
Hint-Use 2 oz. plastic souffle cups for these so you can see the Gummy Bear through the cup. Also, tell your guests to loosen the Jello from the cup using their finger before taking the shot.

This is how you make a LOT-O-SHOTS
posted by firstname.lastname@example.org @ 03:18PM, 9/07/06
Anyways I KNOW THE BEST WAY TO MAKE Jell-O SHOTS.. and im just nice enough to share my tricks with YOU....
The trick to a perfect Jell-O shot is adding the ALCOHOL at the right time..... Now there are many things you can set the Jell-O in but I prefer SOLO brand 2-oz Plastic cups with lids 1-oz is smaller than a average shot (2-oz = 1-oz Jell-O and 1-oz booze ..anyways)
What you have to do is make sure to have extra Jell-O so you can make an almost syrup thick Jell-O mix. I like using 5 average packages and just enough water to make it a soupy thickness but enough to completely dissolve the Jell-O. After you get the water boiling add Jell-O mix and dissolve. Once dissolved you will need a clean Gallon milk jug with the top cut off but still able to pour from easily. Do not add the alcohol to the mix until the water has stopped steaming or you will evaporate some of the Alcohol and that's alcohol abuse! Since the Jell-O mix is so THICK, very important, you should add one part to one part or however strong you would like your Jell-O to be. You can check the strength of the Jell-O by tasting it like a mixer. If it is thin going down it MAY not gell up. You want a consistency where it is still somewhat soupy but not thick. You don't want water .... just slightly thicker.
If you have a LOT of cups to fill, the gallon jug works wonders for mixing (shaken not stirred) and for pouring hundreds of little cups. You can make this with any Jell-O and ALMOST any alcohol you like (liquor WORKS BEST) and as stated on this site there is an almost endless combination of flavor in these recipes so enjoy. AND FOR GOD SAKES HAVE SOME FUN YOU GOT JELL-O!!!!

Topshelf Margarita jelloshots
posted by Jimmy Buffet @ 08:46PM, 9/21/06
1 cup of Sauza Tequila (the most economical 100% Agave tequila, but use Patron if you must) 1 pack of Lime jello. 1 cup of margarita mix in the place of the hot water. (get the more expensive mix at the liguor store, and not a cheap half gallon from a grocery store) 1 teaspoon of lime juice, fresh squeezed, (not the shitty little plastic bottle kind.) After the shots set up, just barely frost the tops of shots with salt.
Oh, and very lightly spray the individual cups with the original Pam spray 30 minutes prior to poring. 20% alcohol jello shots tend to stick in the cups more than normal jello.

Mix the jello with the hot water as usual, then 1/2 cold water and 1/2 jagermeister. For those who like their alcohol harder (or what i call the double trouble jager shot) replace the 1/2 cold water with jager. My friends and I have these all the time and we never tire of them! Water just thins it out. Then let it cool like normal. Don't think it works? Try it, I get it spot on every time, and you need fewer to hit the floor that way :) Enjoy muthafuggahs!

Drinking the jello shot
posted by Deviant Informant @ 11:23PM, 2/01/07
What you do is to make sure that you add the alcohol to the boiling water and then immediately take the shot. That guarantees the best synergism between the water, the sugar, and the alcohol.
And when you go to the hospital, make sure you tell them that you are a freshman.
Disclaimer: If you hadn't noticed the sarcasm...
posted by Deviant Informant @ 11:31PM, 2/01/07
Of course, I am just kidding. NEVER drink boiing water. If you really are that clueless, by "letting it sit", it really means "let it solidify." You *eat* the shot. Or suck the jello out. That's what makes the shots fun in the first place.
A different point:
You can make layered shots by pouring the first layer, letting a skin form, and then carefully pouring the next layer. If you wait too long, the layers will separate. If you do it too soon or too carelessly, they will mix. If you're artsy, It can make a NEAT look.
You can use same alcohol for two different jello colors/flavors or use different alcohols for same/different jellos. If you're REALLY talented, you could probably figure out a way to make a long island ice tea in layers.

After you add boiling water allow it to get to room temp then add the vodks. I keep the voddy in the freezer. Adding the alcohol to the hot water evaporates it. This is one strong shooter!

I use the same recipe, but I dissolve the jello in 1/2 cup on boiling water, and add 1/2 of cold club soda with the cup of alcohol. This makes them fizzy-everyone loves them, and always asks me to bring them to the party-The favorite flavor is orange jello with vanillia vodka, and pineapple jello with parrot bay rum.

Well, anyway, try the drink its delicious, and then try the jello shooter, its amazing! 6 oz Pineapple jello, boil in 1 cup water, and then add 1 more cup of a mixture of Malibu and 151 to taste. [I'd go light on the 151, they call it that for a reason!] Delicious, and a funny reference. Caribou Lou Shooters. Doesn't get any better than that!

The jello doesnt become a solid. You let it sit and it settles like regular Jello.
You then eat the jello. They just call them shots because most people put them in shot glasses, and they're about as powerful as a shot of liquor.

In the summertime, jello puts out special flavors: Pina Colada, Margarita, and Strawberry Daiquiri.
So you make the Pina Colada with rum, the Margarita tequila, and the Strawberry Daquiri with rum or vodka...
We had one HELL of a party last summer...
Also, I personally favor using the little 2ox plastic solo cups, that way you actually end up with an ounce of alcohol per shot. The little 2 oz cups are easily available (check wal-mart, by the paper plates)

1 and 1/2 cups boiling water (a little less water to make them set better)
2 cups Cabana Bay Pineapple & Coconut rum ( or you can substitute 1 cup of malibu pineapple rum and 1 cup any coconut flavored rum if you can't find Cabana Bay).

In answer to how do you get the jello out of your plastic cup. Most people take a toothpick and circle it around in the cup - this losens the jello therefore making it easier for you to suck it out of the cup.
Hope this helped.

The easiest way to get Jello shots out of the 2 oz plastic cups from Sam's is to stick your tongue out and run it in between the edge of the cup and the Jello!! Silly people! Our favorite jello shots include the chocolate covered cherries (or strawberries), cosmopolitans, seabreezes, Red Hots, Margaritas (we just use the Chi-Chi's mix), fuzzy navels, caramel apples (yum!!) and purple hooters. And last year we made "sex on the beach" ones. This year we're gonna try Pineapple Upside-Down cakes. But I like the idea of soaking the cherries in vodka and adding them to the choc-covered cherry ones!

Hey i hate it when my friends make jello shooter in the plastic cup, its always so much more difficult to get the shot into your mouth than it should be. When I make them i put them in the paper cups (usually "stolen from MacDonalds, because they have the biggest ketchup cups) dont worry about the jello leaking through the paper, it hasnt happened to me yet and ive been making them for a very long time.... all you have to do when youre ready to take the "shot" is squeez the jello into your mouth....soooo much more convenient then spinning a toothpick....or swirling your toung.... especially when the shooter is allll alcohol....and you just want to swallow it, without tasting it.....

I find it works best to use the 2oz. plastic Solo cups that come with lids. They stack very nicely for storage. I line them up and spray them with non stick cooking spray, unflavored of course. Simply run your tongue along the edge and they come out whole. It's a slightly bigger Jell-O shot, but still yummy. That way you don't have to bother with toothpicks. I have also put my Jell-O shots in the freezer to get them to set quicker, not sure about leaving them in over night though.
Recently I used Island Pineapple Jell-O and Pineapple Malibu and they were a huge hit. I was also wondering if anyone tried using Red Bull with any of their Jell-O shots?

I needed to make a massive amount of jello shots for a party and didn't have enough storage space. My friend and I, after making several different batches, decided that trying to make hundreds of little 1 to 2 oz shots would take forever. We made the next batch and once the mixture cooled we poured it in a gallon size ziplock bag and let it set up. Next day, we squished it a little to soften it, cut a hole in the corner of the bag, and squeezed it like cake icing into our 2 oz cups. SOOOOOOO easy, and no need to loosen it from the cup, it poured right out into your mouth.

I make jello shots for all our parties. The sex on the beach is by far the favorite. Use one 3oz package of cranberry and one of orange jello. Dissolve with 2 cups of boiling water. Add 1 1/3 cups of vodka and 2/3 of a cup of peach schnapps.
Grape Crush jello shot

Someone asked what kind of alcohol to use with grape jello. This is the best recipe I have found.
3oz grape jello, 1 cup boiling water, 2/3 cup of vodka, and 1/3 cup of Amaretto.

At a party recently someone brought a bunch of jello shooters in some kind of suck n blow tubes. Tons of fun even seeing some of the older ladies going up to their spouses saying honey, would you mind blowing me? lol...you put them in your mouth and you find someone to blow the other end of the tube while you suck and it was a lot of fun and quite the ice breaker to get the party rolling.
PAM cooking spray

Use Pam (unflavored) cooking spray to keep the Jello from sticking to the cups. You won't taste it!
I'm thinking about making the Orange Dreamsicle (Creamsicle) Jello shots and instead of using vanilla vodka, I want to use vodka and vanilla extract... has anyone tried this? I'm thinking it would be pretty much the same.

Since you all are so dumb, I thought I'd let you know that if you want to get crunked and have a good time, you need to drink a bottle of liquor in the course of a 1/2 hour and then go make love to someone willing!

As mentioned before , 60cc feeding syringes are CREEPILY COOL for halloween style jello shots ! make it however you make it - i dont care what alcohol type or flavors .. - and instead of using cups and such just use the syringe .. they come with caps on the end so when you hvae it in your fridge it doesnt come out .. and when you are ready to eat them you just push it thru and into your mouth ! the syringes are sterile and needle free .. and any medical equipment store can get one and most towns have to have a medical equipment store somewhere in a close area !! i work at a medical equipment store and we've had about 6 people come in already to make jello shots for halloween w/ our syringes ... granted i work here but i can get the case of 30 for about 17 $ , so it cant be upcharged too much more than that !!!

jello shots (with a lot of hit)
posted by retired party animal @ 05:14PM, 11/22/07
Jello (jiggler - mix instructions) - just add enough water to heat and dissolve following gradual heat until thickness occurs (you may have to play with this amount to figure out the least amount possible)
---carefully heat the amount of liquor required ( in separate container ) to complete the water recommendation on box ( keep steam to none - or minimum )
add alcohol to mix and pour immediately followed by a fridge rest four about 6 hours
I have made trays of these guys with EverClear(grain),vodka, flavored liquors etc
trust me they are time released due to the jiggler make up and will jump on you when you least expect it so take it easy the first time. I think of them like a harbenaro pepper - they burn in your stomach
--personal experience : I eat some of these one day at the beach - sat around a bit , took a shower and drove to the store. I felt fine ... out of no where I fell into a rack of suntan lotion - ever since I know to not make these guys in the bottom of Styrofoam bowls (use shot sized containers)
Pellow: You guys haven't figured anything out.

Im a regular ole strawberry jello & vodka girl
But I use dixie cups (like you use in the bathroom) but u have to wait for the jello to slightly thicken before pouring it in or the cups will get soggy & absorb the jello.

I have a ton of triple sec and would like to use it for Jello shots.
Any ideas of what flavor jello it would go well with?
Or if I would need any addtional juices, etc?
Any triple sec jello shot recipes are welcomed!!

Just have a stack of toothpicks. Use toothpicks to separate jello off the cup. Make a circle around the jello in the cups and voila!!! thats what we did.

I have been making these fabulous treats for many years. Be creative. Choose your favorite drink and turn it into a jello shot. My favorite is the alabama slammer, made with tropical fruit jello, triple sec and southern comfort. Dam good! The two ounce solo brand souffle cups and lids work the best. Number the bottom with a sharpie and make a list and post it. saves a ton of explaining for the different flavors. I am in delaware and can't find the sour apple jello for my apple vantinis. Where can i get some??

Use orange or lime with triple sec.
There's no doubt that Jello shots are a party favorite. Although this particular recipe calls for watermelon jello and rum, many flavor variations exist. Substitute the rum in the above recipe with midori melon liqueur, for example, and you have something altogether unique. Orange or cherry jello (jell-O, or "gelatin dessert") works well with brandy, while peach jello tends to suit bourbon (jack daniel's) as raspberry jello does raspberry schnapps.
Many jello shot recipes simply call for a flavored jello and vodka, or even rum. Keep in mind, when planning your parties, it's a good idea to provide for several tastes. Try some of the following popular combinations:
Lime jello, tequila and triple sec
Orange jello, orange cognac/brandy (ie. grand marnier) or peach schnapps
Cherry jello, cherry brandy
Raspberry jello, raspberry schnapps
Tropical fruit jello, mango liqueur or dark rum
Peach jello, bourbon (rebel yell)
Unflavored jello + lemonade, kentucky whisky
Strawberry jello, light rum and strawberry liqueur
Apricot jello, amaretto
Grape jello, vodka
When allowing jello shots to set, chill them in individual servings; in an ice cube tray, or similar equipment. Note that the water in jello shot recipes is required to allow the jello to set. If for some reason you find your mix fails to set, you either need to add more water, or use less. In either case, you'll need to start from scratch. (Don't add more gelatine at a later stage - the water isn't boiling, therefore your shots will inherit a grainy texture.)
