Use Don Q or Palo Viejo Rum and "Breyers extra creamy" vanilla ice cream to REALLY make this great. I also added a little nutmeg (1/8 tsp) and ground cloves (1/4 tsp).

This is my 3rd time making this version of coquito, adding the ice cream makes it so much more tasty compare to the old fashion coquito with water (yuk).

Vanilla Ice Cram sound tasty but on what cost we going to change tradition old fashion coquito. There's many ways to do it, but Ice Cream... that sounds more like a coquito milk shake to me my friend, and you don't have to add water that to make more quantity if you want quality try it with a little bit of brandy instead of the water.

Instead of vanilla ice cream try coconut ice cream and that my friend is a wonderful adventure but make sure its coconut ice cream that has the flakes, if not you can add to it, they sale the bags of coconut flakes in your baking section of your corner supermarket.....but keep in mind you dont want to over do it eighter... another tip is to use coconut cruizan rum excellent change of taste and this my dear comes from a coquito expert... Happy holidays from puerto rico...

Totally disagree with the last statement. Breyers vanilla ice cream is great for coquito it gives this beverage some weight as coquito without vanilla ice cream can be too watery. This also depends on a persons taste.
My only complaint, I suggest using real coconut; grated coconut and extract the coconut milk. it is a nice touch and more traditional than using just Coco Lopez to get that coconut taste.
